The company, founded in 1954 by the Giessein couple, is a world-leading manufacturer of walk fabrics. When walking, the fine fibers of a wool fabric protruding from the yarn are felted in a very elaborate process lasting up to 12 hours, creating a material that is very durable, water-repellent and windproof, has antibacterial and temperature-regulating properties, and has high breathability. Only the best New Zealand and South American wool is used. Giesswein impressively combines the tradition of a technology known since the 15th century with state-of-the-art processing; this is evident in the famous hut shoes produced since 1974 and also in the latest development of the Merino Runner.
